Introduction

Aloina Kindb. is a rather widely distributed genus that usually grows on open soils and soil-covered rocks in dry places from the sea level to high, open ranges. It is characterized by the incurved leaf margins and the filaments cover the costa and part of the ventral side of the lamina, which give it a fleshy appearance.
A world wide revision of the genus was carried out by Delgadillo (1975) and for the Mediterranean Region by Gallego et al. (1999). Presently the genus is represented by 12 species.
